Our December 2022 round-up

We make the last analysis of the year, and will prepare a summary of 2022 shortly.

Audiences are down in December, compared to the previous month and the previous year. They have been declining for a quarter, and one wonders why. There is probably no single explanation, but it seems that the big streamers are reducing their broadcasting hours and this is reducing the accumulated hours; nevertheless, 2022 closes with figures very similar to the record year of 2021. In any case, we have always said that audiences are important in quantitative terms, but not the only thing, a critical variable is engagement; and here in general and in the channels in particular, it is holding up quite well. The most football and Argentinian channels have gone off this month in engage, but the big ones are still very strong. We need to keep analysing to see where we are going in 2023.

It is surprising to see that Fortnite has made a big comeback in December 2022, after almost disappearing from the audience rankings for many months, it has returned and as a leader (7.9M hours viewed). Probably because of the reboot campaign or perhaps because of the introduction of the group gesture where players can play the song Master of Puppets by Metallica. What is clear is that it is the most watched game on Twitch Spain, we'll see if it continues like this in the coming months. It is closely followed by the classic LOL (7.7M) and Valorant (6.8M). Special Events is in 4th position thanks to Ibai and his Last One Standing project. And finishing the ranking we have GTA, a real classic. Out of the ranking are Minecraft, Sports (keep an eye on what's coming in this category for 2023) and Call of Duty.

In terms of global brands, there are almost no changes and the endemic brands continue to do very well, but also some non-endemic brands such as Adidas.

In Play and Earn games, we see that AlienWorld continues to be the game of reference and Benji Bananas continues to rise, both in UAW and in transaction volume.
