The video game industry is growing again in Spain

The videogames sector is experiencing one of its best moments in our country, and it does not appear to be decreasing according to its trend.

The Spanish Video Game Association (AEVI) has just published industry data from last year. Video games are still the first leisure option in Spain, where it generated 1,163 million euros. This figure has grown by 80 million euros compared to 2015, which represents a 7.4% increase.

According to this study, in Spain there are 15 million gamers, of which 56% are men and 44% are women. On average, we played 6.2 hours a week, beating countries like France in this regard. The most players are the Z generation. From the 6 to 10 year age group, it plays 75%, while from 11 to 14 the percentage rises to 76%.

In terms of sales, Spanish users still prefer to buy games in physical format than online. The physical sale generated 781 million and the online 382 million euros. Mobile applications stand out, which already represent a very important part of the market. In 2016 generated 177 million euros, a figure not negligible.

This type of sales that we have commented, has much to do with the type of video games by platforms that we consume. Physical video games are played by 8 million people, followed closely by the online environment, with 7.4 million users, and Apps, with 6.8 million gamers. Tablets and handheld consoles are somewhat more minority, but represent 3.8 and 3.7 million users, respectively.

In terms of gamer events, Barcelona Games World 2016 became the biggest video game event in our country's history. With nearly 122,000 visitors, over 1,000 gaming terminals and 372 business meetings, the BGW broke records once again.

Finally, 2016 was a historic year in terms of politics and video games. For the first time it was demanded in the Congress of Deputies to facilitate international investments. In turn, the Assembly of Madrid demanded the development of the local industry and in the Parliament of Catalonia the video game industry appeared in a parliament.

Every year we see how the sector is gaining ground and importance in the economic, social and political sector. The data reflect that and therefore from Play The Game we continue betting on video games and eSports as a different and very powerful way to reach targets difficult to access. We want to advise you the best gaming strategy for your brand, do not stay the last!
